Transit Flight from Singapore Changi Airport to Senai International Airport
Posted at Wednesday, 20 September 2006, 1:44 AM, Categorised as Travel Tips

Last month, for the first time, I tried transiting a flight from Changi Airport to Senai International Airport. I was coming back from HK via Jetstar Asia so I decided to take AirAsia back to Penang from Senai International Airport. The experience is a nightmare. Here is the details :-

Flight Reach Changi Airport : 2.40 pm
Flight Depart From Senai Airport : 8.20 pm
Must Reach Senia Airport before : 7:40 pm
Total time I have to travel to Senai Aiport : 5 Hours

The flight did not delayed much but the time are wasted in many ways such as waiting for everyone to get out of the plane, walking out to the departure hall, time spend for checking in Singapore Immigration, time spend waiting for the lugguage and the time spend to travel from terminal 1 to terminal 2. The whole process took about 1.5 hours.

Then I used the fast Singapore MRT service from Changi Airport Station to Kranji Station. The journey is far and it takes a total of another 1.5 hours including the waiting time and the time spend changing lines.

Actually when I asked the SMRT customer support, they told me to go to Woodlands Station to catch the bus to Johor. I did try this option but trust me, Causeway bus in Kranji is more realiable and more frequent than SMRT bus to Johor. I wasted a lot of time waiting for the bus and the whole journey including checking out Singapore Immigration and checking in Malaysia Immigration took me almost an Hour. I have already spend 4 hours, I am left with only 1 hour so I decided to take a Taxi (Kereta Sapu) to Senai Airport. The journey to Senai Airport is far and with the Johor Bharu traffic jam it took 1 hour to reach the airport. I reach at the nick of time, I am the last one to check in, in fact I am 10 minutes late but lucky they still accept me.. Phew..

I did rush like hell, running inside the immigration with my 3 heavy bags. Thank You the kereta sapu guy for speeding and drive dangerously to advoid all the jams. Because of your excelent service, my AirAsia ticket is not void. I will never try to do this again, I will just take an express bus back to Penang next time.

To AirAsia : Your guide to catch a flight in Senai airport via public transport looks very easy and fast but it is too troublesome, I would not want to do it again. Please fast get approval to flight from Singapore.

this nightmare could have been made easier on yourself as follows. from the airport take the mrt to bugis station. walking distance from this station are express buses costing sgd2.40 and these take you up to larkin bus station. from larking station you have choice of three buses, each operating every twenty minutes and costing MR3.20 straight to the airport at senai. you should reach changi airport to senai airport in three hours barring weekend and holiday traffic jams at the immigration terminals in singapore and jb. surely it is cumbersome if you have heavy luggage but with light luggage this should be a nice little outing though not after a long flight from london. by the way the budget flights are already operation from the changi airport to kl cct. - musaphir, 7 October 2008 10:42 PM
