Yahoo Domains (Only USD 2.99 per year) to try out the concept of Domain Squating + Internet Affiliates. After one year this is my results :-
Net Profit : USD 37
If every domain averagely you gain USD 37 per year, imagine you own 100 domains.
USD 37 x 100 = USD 3700 per year
You will be earning approximately RM 1140 per month.
How does Domain Squating + Internet Affiliates works?
You register a domain name that is similar to the principal website domain name. Join principal website's affiliate program. Register that domain name and get the domain name to point to the principle website together with your affiliate ID.
Step by Step Instructions How I get mine set up.
- Find a popular e-commerce site to market. Make sure that site has affiliate programs. For this demonstration, I choose http://www.pocketgear.com
- In pocketgear.com, find the link to join their affiliate programs. It is ussually located at the bottom of the page.
- Register as an affiliate.
- Then I find a domain name that I feel the visitors of pocketgear.com will type wrongly. There is a few methods to identify those domains, I am just going to show you one method. In this method, I type www.pocketgear.com 50 times in a notepad program. Sometimes when you type really fast, your finger moves faster than your brain and when this happends, you either miss type a few letters or you misplace a few letters. From that exercise, I found the perfect domain name I am going to register. pcoketgear.com.
- Went to Yahoo Domains to check if pcoketgear.com is still available. Register the domain.
- Next, log in to pocketgear.com affiliate administrator to get the link address. Some affiliate programs, they only provide HTML link codes so need to extract out the link URL from the HTML code.
- Change my pcoketgear.com domain name forward settings to the link address.
- Wait 24 hours for the domain to be activated.
- Access pcoketgear.com to test it out. Yes it works, it jumps to pocketgear.com with my associateid in the URL.
- Lastly wait for the sales.
Do I still own pcoketgear.com Domain Name?
No, I refuse to renew this domain name. USD 47 per year earnings is too few and since I don't have a US bank account, after all the bank fees for processing the cheque and conversions commission it leaves me with almost nothing.
So what is the solution?
I am now targeting affiliate programs that has a higher payout or affiliate programs inside
Commission Junction. Commission Junction will consolidate all my tiny tiny commissions from all the company and pay me monthly.
Is Domain Name Squating (Cyber Squatters or Typo Squatters) illegal?
Yes, by law it is illegal but everyone does it anyway. Will you get into jail for it? I don't think so but you might lose possession of that domain name. I refuse to comment more, see this article for more details.
