Christmas Vacation : Hong kong 5 Days 4 Night
Posted at Monday, 12 December 2005, 10:42 AM, Categorised as Backpacking Trip

Day 1, December 5

Left hotel in Guangzhou at 9 am, headed to East Raiway Station for train to Shenzhen. Train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen cost RMB 70 and the journey takes about 1 hour. Arrived Shenzhen and walk towards Hong Kong. Very convinient, lots of English signs available. Pass thru the China and  Hong Kong Custom and took KCR to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) for HK 38.

In TST station, exit C and cross the street to Chungkin Mansion. This is the place to get real cheap accommodation. I got mine for just HK 110 from a friendly Shanghai landlady. The room is small, the smallest i have even stay but at least it is clean and does not smell.

After some unpacking, went to TST MTR station to get a tourist octopus card. For HK 220, I get 3 days unlimited MRT ride, HK 20 octopus value for bus and 1 trip to Hong Kong airport via the airport express. Then went from station to station to explore the city. Headed back to TST area around 7pm and headed to the Avenue of Star to catch the 8pm Hong Kong building light show. The view is really amazing and the show is just magical. Look at all those buildings and their lights.

After the show, went to Yau Ma Tei MTR station to go to Templer Street. Had my dinner there. The food there is fairly priced. Then went shopping, lots of cheap stuff here mostly came from China of course.

Day 2, December 6

Wake up early and took the MTR to Tung Chung station. Had breakfast in MacDonald and took public bus to the big buddha (HK 16 one way). After The big Buddha, stop by at Sunny Bay station and took the Disney Express to Disney Land. Explorer Disney vinicity and took some pictures.

Disney MTR Station

Disney Bus Station

Disney Ferry Pier

After tired exploring disney vinicity, went to Tsing Yi for High Tea. Tired of all those walking, headed back to TST to rest. At night, I went to Central MTR Station for Lan Kwai Fong. Heard all my friend say there is a lot of HK star hanging out there. Go Hong Kong of course wanna see HK stars lah.. If get to see Sheh Si Man then my whole trip would be so much more meaningfull. To my disapointment, Lan Kwai Fong is full of foreigners, mostly kwai lou and Shanghai businessman and businesswoman. With disapointment, I took the late MTR train back to TST. Better leave hong Kong island before the MTR stops because taking a taxi back to mainland will cost a bomb.

Since the night is still young, I did some exploring in TST area. I am so lucky, saw a huge crowd standing and waiting for some star. Since I have nothing to do and my guest house is just few street away, I followed the crowd and waited for HK stars. It happends that night there is a premier for a new movie so lots of big stars are going to see the premier. Saw a few stars such as Ronald Cheng, Mandy, Kenny (Boys), Fatty Wong Jing,Takashi something something (girls just scream crazily and cries when he smiles at the crowd). Sigh why no have Sheh Si Man.

Day 3, December 7

Wake up late today. Take my own sweet time. Walk to the Avenue of the Star for a day picture of Hong Kong Island and cross to the other side with the famous ferry. Exploring all the great hong kong buildings in central, looking at all the amazing Christmas decorations while listening to Christmas song on my HP IPAQ 4100. What a great experience, exploring Hong Kong Island on Winter.

From central, I walk up to Hong Kong Botanical garden to explore their park. Enterance is free not like China, all park also need to pay. It is actually a mini zoo with quite a collections of cage animal. Not really interested in cage animals so left the park and took the peak tram up to the Peak for HK 20. More pictures of Hong Kong buildings from the peak angle and left the peak with a bus for HK 9.60.

I am so tired so went back to my guesthouse for a rest and do some shopping in TST area before going to Wong Tai Sin MTR station to visit my HK relatives.

Day 4, December 8

It is finally Thursday. The day I am waiting for. The weather is just nice, not too cold like Tuesday and Wednesday (10C). Disney here I come. My cousin is so kind, bring me to Disneyland Hong Kong so at least got someone to take my picture for me. What a coincidence, met my primary school friend / neighbour at the Disney enterance. So happy to see him.

Me as a kiasu traveller, waited 10 am for the disney door to open. Once inside Disney, we ride the train to the end of the park and play all the rides at the back to avoid the crowd. There is not much people for the first 1 hour but as the crowds moves in, we have to be bare with the long queues. Overall the experience is fun and magical but the rides are just pathetic. Silly me, Disney is for kids mah, should not expect a lot. Well the 3D show is great, the live show is good and the street parade is also good, if without the crowd. Disney cast and crew is also good. Their river cruise is short but funny for cantonese language ride only.

Our river cruise tour guide, nice costume indeed.
Disney sure knows how to choose the best cast and crew

Disney Parade, so colourful and magical. Is that a kid inside the sun flower costume.

Finally the Main Star, Mickey Mouse and me lah. Mickey Mouse is so short

After Disney, my cousin treat me to a nice seafood dinner. Large crab and large tiger prawn for only HK 38 per dish. Hong Kong seafood is really reasonable when compare with one small bowl of Wan Tan Mee for HK 20 and Sai Mai Lou (dessert) for HK 10.

Day 5, December 9

Last day in Hong Kong, meet with my cousin for breakfast and went to Wong Tai Sin for HK most famous temple. Before I leave HK for the airport, manage to stop by at Sa Sa to buy some miniature perfume for my Mom and sis. Reached Penang at 8.30 pm

Total Budget Spend : HK 2000 (without air flight)
